It's over. After a three-year run, two volumes, 36 issues, a bunch of added recurring characters and... I can't remember how many separate arcs... IDW's Ghostbusters ongoing series has come to an end.
Well, not entirely, because starting in October, there is a Ghostbusters/TMNT crossover happening for four more issues, and, after that, who knows?
The fine folks at IDW have hinted at, at least, some one-shots and mini-series eventually, and they've already spoken to the creative team about a potential third volume depending on... stuff. Stuff they aren't telling the fans, but that they have confirmed had little to do with sales, and it's been hinted at that it has more to do with having nothing else on which to build hype for the comic. Like movies or a current TV series.
As of yesterday, there is also a French translation out (at least, in France), where the stories will be released by arc rather than by issue. The first arc was released yesterday, and I skimmed the preview for it, and the translation looks solid. They have had to make some slight changes in the dialogue due to re-using the same speech bubbles and French text coming out longer than English text, but so far, it looks like a good, solid translation.
It's a good end even if there is some sadness even in the story. I did feel a bit let down, because this arc's conclusion had more the feel of a regular arc's conclusion, while the start of it felt like it was going to have an epic showdown at the end, and it... didn't really.
The epilogue left things wide open for more stories eventually. And I would hope that whoever writes any one-shots or mini-series (if Burnham doesn't) will pick up where the ongoing left off instead of trying to make them their own things.
