Is that the comic, the animated series, the films or the whole shebang!
Long, excited comment is long.
I've been mainly inspired to write by the darker and edgier vibe that the short-lived 88MPH-published comic had (which was to be a reboot and retcon set post-millennium, around 2003/2004, which also simplifies the whole pop-culture referencing bit for me... ). I'm looking to the cartoon for certain timeline elements, adding 20 years to the dates, the movies and the 2009-released videogame for the technology and characterization, and the whole thing for the mythology.

I had a mini-fandom with just one friend for the movies when we were around 11 or 12. We tried to send each other telepathic messages and actually achieved a pretty high rate of success, though I don't know if that's just because between a table and a closet one always selects the table, or something. Obviously, being 12, we loved Slimer. I saw a couple of episodes of the animated series but I never read the comic.
My favourite characters were Egon and Janine. It wasn't a ship thing, I thought the pairing was pretty adorable but loved the characters separately.
I just discovered to my horror that I forgot the names of the other two ghostbusters. The ones played by Ernie Hudson and Dan Ayckroyd. *imdbs* Oh my gosh! There's a Ghostbusters III in development! :o Ernie Hudson is slated for it! *clickclickclick* And the others too, including Weaver and Ramis! :D :D Eee!

My favourites are Egon, Ray and Janine. I ship Egon/Janine like a madwoman, though, and there was much squee over a scene in the videogame where they almost have a moment. (I'm surprised Ramis let that in because he didn't like that relationship, which is why she gets with Louis in the second film. Though that was many years ago, maybe he does like it more now?)
The script for Ghostbusters III is in its second draft, the writing of which is being overseen by Ramis and Aykroyd to ensure proper continuity. Three of the main fours (Ramis, Aykroyd and Hudson) are definitely ecstatic about reprising their roles. Murray's playing hard to get.
As far as the comics go, a few publishers have had the rights to the comic. The first comics were cartoon!verse, and relatively childish and ridiculous. Then other publishers got the rights and those tend to be darker with some adult-ish themes in it. The 88MPH stuff was, by far, the best and followed the original mood, theme and characterization seamlessly, but I suppose the fact that it was a tiny publisher based out of Quebec City did not help keep it afloat, and they went bankrupt. *much pouting* My Egon icon is from some promotional materials they released before they published the 4 part story arc that was supposed to launch an Ongoing series.

Right, I didn't think of Megaupload-linking them here... I had uploaded it for three friends who wanted to read it. .cbr/.cbz format, of course.
There was also a "0" issue about Winston's first night on the job, which I'm desperately trying to get my hands on, to no avail, so far.
I try not to get distracted by how buff Ray Stantz is in this. I made a O.O!!! face when I first saw him out-of-uniform... I liked Dan Aykroyd's pudge, but here they made him kind of jock-y.
Oh, and Legion's by a different artist than the picture in my icon. So the style's a bit more rugged. (I really should upload my other 88MPH-based icons...)

My Mom loves Dustin Hoffman, and I too admit he's damn good. In Tootsie, Murray was Hoffman's deadpan snarker roommate. Small role, but hilarious. :D
Oh, wait. Dammit. I think his best work may have been in The Little Shop of Horrors after all. Now I can't decide!

I don't remember seeing him in The Little Shop of Horrors either, but then, I was distracted by the awesome geeky cuteness that is Rick Moranis.
I love Murray in Stripes, by the way. It does help that he's opposite Ramis in it too.

Stripes is funny! And if you manage to get your hands on the Extended Cut, there's some naked!Ramis bathtub antics with a cute naked!girl in it... I have screencaps I could post! We don't see naughty bits, except for Murray's girlfriends' boobs.

It's funny you don't remember that. There was a whole thing about how the sadist dentist is confused and enraged by this guy who has a total kink for dental pain.
I've never had a root canal done, thank goodness, but I also didn't get local anaesthesia for any of the dental work I had done until I was in my teens.
Boobs? So it's one of those 80s comedies! I'm gonna have a dig around and see if I find it.

I highly suggest getting the extended cut, because there are some priceless comedic scenes in there. Including Russell accidentally getting high on acid, thinking they're motion sickness pills (he says he gets airsick), and then hilarity ensues.
