Maple sugaring season!

So, here, have this video of Japanese kids enjoying maple taffy on snow. And, the random guy with the Canadian flag on his apron appears to be French Canadian. At any rate, his accent is impeccable, if he isn't.

I remember reading about this in the Little House on the Prairie books, but I've never done it myself. I have a bottle of syrup, maybe we'll get one more good snow this year...

...and I heard one of the only Japanese words I know, "oishi!"

Then boil that syrup down a bit further and enjoy! (I suggest looking up the how-to, first, because there is nothing like a still too runny syrup to kill your potential sugar high.) You can also achieve the same effect on crushed ice, which, depending on where in Japan this was filmed, it's possible they were actually using flavoured shaved ice (they're basically sno-cones) base.
