Okay, so, it ain't Collectormania 4 or ComiCon or something with LOTR actors in it, but it was GREAT and I had a good time!
Hung out mainly at the Magical Blend's booth, because, well, my flatmate was working there, and so were Justine and Peter. And it was fun, and my legs were hurting from walking in bad shoes in the morning when I visited the Regal Princess with work. But, at their booth, I had something special put aside from me... which is going to become my first ritual blade.
Friday night, after working at the Con, Fabiola got home super late, but we had a convo that went a little like this:
Fabiola: Guess what?!
Me: What?
Fabiola: We got Sting!
Me: *jaw drops*
Fabiola: I'm not kidding. Fifty bucks!
Me: Can you PLEASE put it aside for me?!
It's a replica, nothing to worry about, the real deal they have at the Red Dragon and it's $369 Canadian. And it doesn't have the swirly engraving on mine, but Peter is going to try and see if he can't engrave my blade with it, and I will actually design the text I want in Tengwar on it. It's going to be my athame/sword.
I went to pick it up yesterday, after my ship visit, and Fabiola went to Ron, who was taking care of giving away the blades to people.
Fabiola: The little Hobbit's here to pick up her sword.
Ron: Huh? What little Hobbit?
Me: *walks over*
Fabiola: *points to me* That little Hobbit!
Ron: *laughter*
So, since I picked Sting up right away, I was stuck carrying it, in its box, under my arm for hours. And walk around I did. When I stopped by Charme Et Sortilège's kiosk, I started talking with two of the people who work there, one being a really nice man, who's closer to my mum's age, and the other is a local actor who's in his late twenties, early thirties whose name is Dominic (yup, I didn't need to go to C4 to meet an actor named Dominic), who's got like, Dom Monaghan's body and colouring and leather cuff fetish, but a quite different face. Well, Pagan Dom (to differentiate with Dom Monaghan) noticed the box under my arm.
Pagan Dom: Hey, you bought a blade.
Me: Yeah, I did. It's a Sting replica.
Pagan Dom: *blank look at the picture on the box*
Me: Frodo Baggins' sword in Lord of the Rings?
Pagan Dom: Oh! *practically drools over the box* May I see?
Me: You mean, like, pull it out of its box?
Pagan Dom: If you don't mind... *eyes my box hopefully*
Me: Sure, I mean, it's not consecrated or charged, yet!
So, I pull out my baby and he's going all "wow" and I hand it by the hilt to the other guy, who actually physically helped me with the box as I pulled it out, and he sort of does this measure thing with it, before handing it to Dominic, who weight it with the cuffed hand and then took it with both hand and stood as though he were calling a quarter (which made him look like someone I wouldn't want to mess with, btw). So yeah, my Sting replica (which is unofficial) got touched by some actor named Dominic who could remind you of Dom Monaghan. Yup. Weird.
Oi and I bought a "Leaf of Lorien" keychain at The Red Dragon.
All is well in my fangirlish world.
