I don't really mind self-inserts when written well and not too Mary Sue-ish, just don't make Janine (or the canon potential love interest, in a different fandom) a catty bitch over it or remove her completely, there can be a realistic reason why it isn't a problem.

I don't have a problem with that, though. And most people in the fandom don't, as far as I can see.
