I guess that was the type of men (non-feminist) women thought charming in the early 1980s? He would be charming, if he wasn't such a womanizing prick!
As a side note, remember how Egon can sometimes seem like he's completely disinterested in women and sex? Watch the scene where they walk into the hotel's lobby carefully. When the woman in the fur coat crosses their path, all three of them give her an appreciative look. Actually, they all pause to watch her walk by. Egon even has one of those rare half-smiles on his face. Similar to the one that appears on his face when he and Janine hug, later in the film.
It is stupid, and he would be such a good step-dad to Oscar, I loved the scenes he had with the baby, at any rate. For a womanizing bachelor (okay, so, he's not that bad in the second film), he seems to have a great touch with children. But then, Bill Murray does have 6 kids! And, since he would have been in Oscar's life since he was an infant, there would be no question who Oscar would call "Dad", especially since it's implied that Oscar's biological father is non-present. Maybe that's what got leaked out, bits of dialogue where Oscar calls him "Dad", and people assumed wrong. If I were to write a fic where Venkman and Dana were together and raising him together, I'd be inclined to have Oscar call him "Dad" to begin with.
Yes, Ghostbusters predates Little Shop of Horrors by roughly two years! :D And Moranis was mostly typecast as a geek because that's what he looks like. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is no exception.
Re: I knew the whole thing would wind up sounding like crack!fic, LOL!
