I could also describe Winston as the Perspective. As I recall he was the one who ended up saying "are you guys crazy, seriously" even though the crazy ended up working out, because that's how films work.
I have to say I found the "evil nerd" stereotype of Louis and Mike in the comic a bit disappointing. Evil nerds can totally rule, like Syndrome in The Incredibles or, well, Severus Snape, but it smacked a bit like jock jealousy of the success of the brain. But I may be too invested in high school stereotypes and it's all a matter of interpretation. I do love that Ray is both sweet, capable, good-hearted, enthusiastic, and a nerd. <3 And making friends with weirdos like it's no big deal. I wonder what his high school years were like?
