Ugh, just overheard a phone conversation at work. I don’t know if it was work-related or not, but one of the people in the department next to mine was calling somewhere and demanding someone who spoke French. The funny bit is, the person doing that is fully bilingual, but the level of entitlement in her voice, and everyone around her laughing gleefully at her giving whoever she was speaking to heck and attitude made me SUPER uncomfortable. Like I wanted to throw things at them.
I can't wait to move out of this province...
BTW, because John and I filled out the last census as speaking both French and English in the home, and I filled it as Bilingual, I don't count as a Francophone for the Quebec government anymore. But as a Bilingual person who wasn't grandfathered in as an Anglophone, I am obligated, per provincial linguistic laws, to receive services solely in French. What. The. Fuck?
I found that out during the last provincial election campaign.
