Since I last seriously posted on here, I have been busy worrying about what is going on in this province.
Namely: The (proposed, for now) Quebec Charter of Values, A.K.A. this pretty piece of bullshit.
No, seriously, you should probably read the full text of the proposed Bill 60 in all its gory details.
French Canadians being French Canadians, and the government being a Nationalist one, some people have taken this as being given license to harrass and, in some cases, physically assault people who aren't speaking French among themselves, or who are wearing "conspicuous" religious symbols that aren't Christian/Catholic, which is hilarious because most Quebec residents don't seriously believe in or practice Catholicism anymore.
Even more fun, a small hardliner Nationalist group is starting a campaign to have every single thing said against the current government and its administrative choices, along with any attempts by Anglophones and Allophones (which defines people whose mother tongue is not French or English, in Canada or Quebec) make at defending their rights when they are treated like second class citizens by the current provincial government, activist organizations and people in genera, to be classified acts of Francophobia, hate speech, and borderline hate crimes.
Even more recently a hospital has been under investigation because two employees had a conversation in Creole. Which is preposterous when you consider that here, just like in Haiti, everyday language isn't even proper French, but rather, a dialect called Joual. While there is nothing wrong with that, Creole also happens to be considered a French dialect. So when you know even a teensy bit about linguistics, the complaint doesn't even make sense!
And people seriously wonder why I want out of this province.
